A NOTE FROM A MEMBER OF OUR 2012 HAITI MISSION TEAM

Mark and I had the opportunity to be part of the LLUMC UMVIM Mission trip to Haiti last month, and the team is going to be sharing some of our experiences with you during worship this Sunday.  While on the trip, I did many things that were 'outside the box' for me, including something as simple as keeping a journal.  Day One started like this....

17 April 2012 - Day one on the job.  The trip to Delmas 33 - our job site - was an event in itself.  We had 100% confidence in our driver, Daniel.  It's a good thing.  Roads were once a part of the city, it's obvious, but torn up by the moving earth during the quake left many impassable, or so we thought.  Broken pieces of some sort, spewing water running down the cracks and crevices and mixed with the layer of dust that must cover everything, runs at a rapid rate down the street, with 6-12 inch cliff-lets in the middle of the road sort of like a shaken up box of Legos.

We stopped.  We talked.  Actually Daniel talked - to several.  We (Daniel again) evaluated.  Then Pederson, our translator, remained outside the van to guide our passage across the gaping cracks in the pieces of road ahead.

The engine was gunned, the tires began to spin, the van rocked, the tires spun some more, and over to the other side we landed.

Pederson got back in.

Mark and I look forward to worshiping with you Sunday, as the Haiti Team shares its stories with you.

Love,

Teri DeVault
