BIBLE STUDIES

Why Should We Care About the Poor

LENTEN STUDY ~ Wednesdays – 7:00 pm

The United Methodist Church has always been committed to the plight of the poor and dispossessed.  Throughout our history, we have championed the cause of those who had no voice.  But, why have we?  Throughout Lent, Rev. Bryant Oskvig will hold a Bible study and conversation about why we should care about the poor.  Come and be a part of talking about our Christian roots in Outreach.  Start with Worship at 6:30 pm and then stay for study.

Bible Study with Convenience in Mind

LLUMC ONLINE BIBLE STUDY ~ Info Meeting March 29 – 11:45 am

Do you find that your schedule doesn't always allow you to join Bible studies?  If so, then come join LLUMC's very first online Bible study and participate based on your schedule.  Romans 15:4  tells us “And the Scriptures were written to teach and encourage us by giving us hope.”  Log on once a week at any time you like and experience that hope and encouragement the word of God gives to us.  A very brief informational meeting will be held in the Great Room at the 10:30 service on March 28 (Palm Sunday).  Questions?  Contact Dave Foley at dave@l-lumc.org.

NEW BIBLE STUDY TO BEGIN ~ Wednesday, April 14

A new Bible study will begin on Wednesday April 14, 2010 based on Randy Alcorn’s book “The Treasure Principle.”  We will talk about the most taboo subjects that churches, couples, and individuals can possibly tackle – money and time.  How does God want you to prioritize your time and money?  How do you invest for the future?  Not for the faint of heart!  The Bible study will meet in the Great Room from 7:00 to 8:15 each Wednesday night for 8 weeks.  Questions?  Contact Dave Foley at dave@l-lumc.org.

WOW ~ Wednesdays – 10 –11:30 am

Join us in the Fellowship Hall (this week – Great Room normally) for bible study. We are studying “Devotion to Jesus:  The Divinity of Christ in Earliest Christianity” this month.

Women’s Evening Study – Wednesdays – 7 to 8:30 pm

You are invited to attend the Women's Evening study group.  Many ladies have enjoyed learning from the studies and each other.  Great friendships have been made, prayers have been prayed for and answered, revelations - you know, those AH HA! moments - have been experienced..... ALL are welcomed and invited to come.

We meet every Wednesday (some come early - or stay late - just to chat and catch up).  We will be using the One Year Bible "God Sightings" Companion as a guide on our journey through understanding and applying the Bible to our everyday lives.  You could even bring a friend!

ACTIVITIES

RED ENVELOPE PROJECT

Help Support the High School ASP Mission Team

In the foyer you will notice a table with numbered red envelopes on it.  You are invited to take an envelope and fill it with the amount of money indicated on the outside ($1 - $144).  Return the envelope to the red box on the table.  Your contribution enables the high school youth to travel to central Appalachia where they will work to make people’s homes warmer, safer and drier.  You can be a part of the solution by making poverty our problem too.

Midweek Service Added ~ All are welcome!

Wednesday Worship Services ~ Today – March 31 – 6:30—7:00 pm

Sometimes we just need a little spiritual fuel in the middle of our week or we missed Sunday worship and want that grounding for our days.  On Wednesdays at 6:30 pm throughout Lent, we will have a worship service with communion.  The service will offer a time of brief reflection and contemplation and will include communion each week.  Following the service, you may join one of our Lenten studies.  We hope that you will join us for this time of praise, prayer, and presence together.

CONFIRMATION CLASS continues on Sundays ~ Noon – 1:30 pm

Youth, 8th grade and above, are invited to this year’s Confirmation Class.  Please come already have eaten lunch.  If you have not yet registered, please contact the church office asap.  [410-531-5653 or meg@l-lumc.org]

ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL ~ New Study has started

Jim Sanborn and Gloria Simpson will be co-leading a study of the life of Moses. This lesson is based on the book Overcoming Life's Disappointments by Harold S. Kushner (author of When Bad Things Happen to Good People).  Adult Sunday School meets at 9 am in the lower-level fellowship hall.  All are welcome - please join us any Sunday!

TABLES of 8 ~ Saturdays ~ March 13 and April 24

Join other LLUMC members at rotating dinner gatherings at various homes on future dates:  March 13 and April 24.  Each meal starts at 7:00 pm in a church member’s home with eight to 10 individuals for a time of food and fellowship.  The “tables” will rotate each month, so that you get to share time with different people.

INFORMATION STATION

Bring in Your Used Ink Cartridges – Help the Church Office

The Environmental Ministry is working with the office to keep our costs down.  Bring your used printer ink cartridges to church and drop them off in the basket in the foyer.  They are being redeemed at Staples for rewards cards to be used for office supplies.

Scrip Gift Cards – Last Chance for this Month

Don McBride will be in the foyer before and after services this Sunday to take orders for gift cards.  There are many retail stores and restaurants to choose from.  Gift cards make great Easter, birthday, thank you gifts.  This is the last time this month that orders will be taken in March.  Look for Don on Sunday.

Relief for Chile -- UMCOR ASSISTANCE

UMCOR is working with the Methodist Church of Chile. Two volunteer teams from the US were serving in Chile on Feb. 27 when the earthquake happened, one team from the Oregon-Idaho Annual (regional) Conference and one from the Wisconsin Conference. Both are safe and still in Chile.

With an initial emergency grant of $10,000 from UMCOR, the Methodist Church of Chile is assessing needs and bringing food and water. The church and its relief arm, the Methodist Humanitarian Action Team, are coordinating efforts with ecumenical and nongovernmental partners and in cooperation with the Chilean government’s emergency response agency.  Donations to the relief efforts of UMCOR and the Methodist Church of Chile can be made online to Chile Emergency Advance # 3021178.  Donations also can be sent by check to UMCOR and dropped in church offering plates or mailed to UMCOR, P.O. Box 9068, New York, NY 10087. Please indicate in the memo line of the check that it is for the Chile Emergency. SCRIP Gift Cards delivered this Sunday.

LINK Delayed

The Post Office has changed their Bulk Mail processing locations and we can no longer use our local Clarksville Post Office.  We now need to submit all bulk mail through the main Post Office in Columbia where we have applied for a new permit.  A current LINK was handed out at services last week.

Paper Recycling at LLUMC

The problems with pick-ups from our paper bin are solved and MORE paper means MORE money for the Youth Mission Trips. Think about it, you spend nothing and whatever you recycle earns money for our Youth. If you bring your paper, consider adding a neighbor's to what you bring.  And if bringing your paper when you come to church is not YET a habit, please consider adding this to your "to do list".  More details next week.

United Methodist’s Kings Dominion Day ~ Saturday, May 1
