Ways to Give
Cash donations are the easiest way to fund the ministry that is happening today. But many of us have also been blessed with assets that can sustain ministry for generations to come. We encourage you to consider how to maximize both the impact of your gift and your tax advantages. This page contains information to help you explore your options and contacts to help you make your high-impact gift.

To give to LLUMC through a Donor-Advised Fund, contact your fund's financial organization and request that they send a grant to Linden-Linthicum UMC. Below you will find necessary information to give to your financial organization so they can process your request:
Legal Name: Linden Linthicum United Methodist Church, Inc.
Address: 12101 Linden-Linthicum Ln, Clarksville, MD 21029
Federal Tax ID: 52-1906368
Contact Email: LLUMC@L-LUMC.org(mailto:LLUMC@L-LUMC.org)
Contact Phone: 410-531-5653
You can support LLUMC through the donation of stock that has grown in value which you have held for more than one year. This can become a substantial gift, made at a low net cost to you. You still receive a charitable deduction for the donation of these assets, and it’s based on their fair market value on the date of the gift. But there’s a bonus—you avoid all federal capital gains tax that would otherwise be due on a sale of the assets. Future estate tax savings may also result from your gift.
Our unique partnership with the Mid-Atlantic Faith Foundation gives you the opportunity to transact this gift at no cost. To consider the possibility and receive detailed information on how to complete a transfer, call the Foundation’s office: 267-449-0577 or email tracybrown@midatlanticfoundation.org(mailto:tracybrown@midatlanticfoundation.org)
Let the Mid-Atlantic Faith Foundation know that you would like to make a Stock gift to Linden-Linthicum UMC, and then of what stock and how many shares. Then, direct your investment firm to transfer your designated stock to:
Bank of New York
DTC Participant Acct # 901
Fulton Financial Advisors, NA Acct # 092651
For Further Credit to:
MID-ATL UM FDN Clearing Account
Acct # 60F510758
Lastly, be sure to notify the Church Office (LLUMC@L-LUMC.ORG)(mailto:LLUMC@L-LUMC.ORG) that you have set up this donation so that the proceeds from the stock sale are recorded as coming from your household in the Church's giving records, and the Church can be in contact with the Foundation's banking partner to transfer the funds.
Your generosity is appreciated!
If you are 70½ or older, you may be required to take a Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your retirement accounts. One beneficial option is to donate your RMD directly to the church through a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD). This allows you to support our ministry while potentially reducing your taxable income. Donating your RMD in this way can be a simple, tax efficient way to make a meaningful contribution to our church’s work. If you're interested in learning more or making a donation, please contact the church office for assistance. Thank you for your generous support!
Steps:
1. Check Eligibility for RMDs
• Ensure you are over the age at which you are required to take RMDs from your Traditional IRA, 401(k), or other eligible retirement accounts.
• Born on or before June 30, 1949: Age 70.5
• Born July 1, 1949 – Dec 31, 1950: Age 72.
• Born Jan 1, 1951 – Dec 31, 1959: Age 73.
• Born Jan 1, 1960 or later: Age 75
• Confirm that you have a qualifying retirement account from which you must take RMDs.
2. Understand Qualified Charitable Distributions (QCDs)
• The IRS allows individuals 70½ or older to donate up to $111,000 per year from their IRA directly to a qualified charity (including a church) as a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD).
• A QCD can satisfy your RMD requirement without counting as taxable income.
3. Contact Your IRA Custodian • Reach out to the financial institution holding your IRA or 401(k) account and ask if they facilitate QCDs to charities, including churches.
• Most custodians offer a form to initiate the QCD, which will include details about the charity and the amount you wish to donate.
4. Verify the Church as a Qualified Charity
• Legal Name: Linden Linthicum United Methodist Church, Inc
• Address: 12101 Linden-Linthicum Ln, Clarksville, MD 21029
• Federal Tax ID: 52-1906368
5. Initiate the QCD
• Complete the necessary paperwork with your IRA custodian to initiate the donation. You will need to provide:
o The name and address of the church.
o The donation amount (up to the RMD or $111,000).
o Your instructions to transfer the funds directly from your IRA to the church.
6. Ensure the RMD is Met
• Your RMD will be reduced by the amount of the QCD, so be sure to calculate how much of your RMD you want to donate.
• If you donate more than your RMD, the excess is still considered a QCD and counts toward the $111,000 annual limit.
7. Avoid Taxable Income
• By donating the RMD directly to the church via a QCD, the distribution is excluded from your taxable income, meaning you won’t pay income tax on the donated amount.
• The QCD doesn’t count as a taxable distribution on your tax return, helping you lower your taxable income and potentially reduce your tax burden.
8. Obtain Documentation
• Keep documentation of the donation from both the IRA custodian (confirming the distribution to the church) and the church (confirming receipt of the donation).
• You’ll need these records for your tax filing and to ensure everything is properly documented.
9. Report the Donation on Your Tax Return
• When filing your taxes, ensure the QCD is properly reflected. You don’t need to include the QCD amount as income on your tax return, but you should keep a record of the distribution.
• Your IRA custodian will typically report the distribution on IRS Form 1099-R, but you will not report the donated amount as income.
Key Benefits:
• Tax Savings: The QCD reduces your taxable income, which could help lower your overall tax liability.
• Satisfy RMD: The QCD counts toward your RMD requirement, helping you meet the IRS mandate.
• Avoid Impacting Itemized Deductions: Since the QCD is not included in taxable income, you don’t need to itemize deductions to benefit from it.
The Linden-Linthicum Endowment Fund is established to provide the opportunity for members and friends of LLUMC to make charitable gifts to LLUMC that will become a permanent endowment for financial support and a living memorial. The Fund is intended for church purposes which are not funded through the annual operating budget. Gifts which are intended to supplement programs and ministries are appropriate.
To give to the permanent endowment, you can give through any of our giving options and designate your gift towards the Endowment through the memo line on a check, giving electronically to the "Other" fund option and specifying in the description, or contacting the office in writing for Retirement Account distributions & stock gifts.
Investment of Permanent Endowment Funds
Funds are managed by The Mid-Atlantic Faith Foundation who will serve as the custodian of the funds. The Funds investment objectives are:
1. Conservation of principal for the effective maintenance of purchasing power
2. Regular income at a reasonable rate
3. Investments are made in accordance with Investment Guidelines as noted in “The Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church”.
Distribution of Income
Annual distribution amounts are determined each year based on a 3 year rolling average of the fair market value of the fund on January 1 of each year. Distribution requests are submitted by Staff, Church Council, or one of the administrative teams to the Permanent Endowment Committee which reviews and approves requests.
